We'll start. As a family, we're healthier in every way ... moods are better and we haven't had a "sick" child visit at the doctor in months. If we do get a cold or some onset of a sniffle, we kick it better and faster. Our immune systems seem notched up. A happier, healthier family out of this experiment. That's the sweetest success.
And you all look spectacular!!!
Lots of hugs and kisses from Boulder!
I have been vegetarian for almost 3 years and it has been almost 2 years since I really cleaned up the other processed junk in my diet, and I don't know how I went on for so long eating the way that I did. I completely underestimated what a difference a change in diet would make on my entire body, mood and well being. It makes perfect sense now...duh!
Today I really notice how much better I feel with my new diet after I eat something I shouldn't or eat rich foods in excess (ice cream). It feels like a bad hangover that takes days to go away.
I feel better, personally, if I eat lots of vegetables and lean protein and avoid flour, baked goods (sad) and pasta.
Processed foods, thanks to my lovely and talented wife, are pretty rare. It took me a long time to figure this out; I'd been stict vegetarian, and before that, a more or less normal American eater.
During my vegetarian times, I didn't really lose weight and I was often ill - perhaps a function of having young petri dishes, er, children coming home with whatever bacteria. God knows what my son eats away from the house, but, perhaps because we don't have processed junk around the house, he's pretty lean.
Eating fresh food does seem to make me feel better, but it's hard to quantify. Feeling kinda lousy from maxing out on, say, muffins and then a pasta lunch, is a lot easier to identify.
Thank you, thank you for this blog! I have been looking for a change and this blog has sparked my interest. I am starting to look at the ingredient list of our current food in the kitchen. I am already in shock over the ingredient list for squeezable yogurt and cream for coffee! YIKES! Thanks you for the time and effort that you have put into this blog. I am ready for change.
Melofahess -We are so pleased that you like our blog. It's been a wonderful, challenging, thrilling effort for us! And once you begin, you won't turn back. And the thrill is when kids start reading labels and making great choices. Keep us posted on progress and ideas!
